“There is neither painting, nor sculpture, nor music, nor
poetry. The only truth is creation.”
--Umberto Boccioni (1882- 1916)
Gil cites Boccioni’s “Unique Forms of Continuity in Space” as influential in his work for its expression of movement.

Gil’s Sculpture work,
like, Dichotomy (pictured above) is “inspired by the complexities of
living fully in all worlds at once.” In 1974, Gil began sculptural work
as a way to give full expression to his ideas. He received his earliest
education in building, construction and sculptural processes through
his father, a European furniture maker, and spent his childhood years in
the family furniture workshop before taking formal training at a
prestigious art restoration workshop in the South of France. Many years
later, as a visual artist, Gil has increasingly sought out the kinds of
expressions sculpture embodies.
Dichotomy, for example, meditates on and celebrates the dual
nature of existence. In this composition, Gil wanted to use “ribbons of
energy,” which he says “capture the process of engaging all levels of
being in order to be fully human.” Here he is able to depict his idea
in a 3-dimensional form, that he says, adds to and enhances the body of
ideas of his other work.

The Oracle, Mixed Media
14 x 20 x 26” – AP 1/1
“The Oracle” is another piece that allows Gil to expand upon and enhance
the vision of his painting work. In it, he brings into dimension the
shapes and forms that inhabit his work. And, as is with the case of
“Midnight,” Gil can actually create a sculptural work from an existing
piece.
